According to recent reports, the world’s largest independent airline caterer has just recently announced plans to make most of its dishes halal compliant.  The chief executive of the Swiss-based Gategroup, Guy Dubois, said that their aim is to make their large hub operations halal compliant. If everything is produced according to halal standards, it will reduce complexity and increase cost effectiveness.

Right now most carriers currently offer halal dishes. However, these dishes are more expensive to supply, because they have to be prepared, stored and transported separately in order to comply with Islamic dietary laws.

The catering giant is currently opening a dedicated halal kitchen at Heathrow. Here meals are prepared for 14 airlines, which does include British Airways. This move follows the sharp growth of Middle Eastern carriers, including Etihad and Emirates, which require all meals to be halal. The company actually prepares more than 200 million meals a year from its 100 flight kitchens in more than 25 countries.

p.s: As a precaution and to be certain.. it is always good to confirm this information with your flight carrier before you purchase your ticket or fly..
